Hydroponic Setup: Light Table
We built a custom light table for our hydroponic garden using a 4-foot plastic table, drain piping, and castors from the hardware store—making it easy to move around. The table holds up to 8 plants and takes up about 15 square feet. We used 6 LED grow lights from AliExpress for full coverage, but for a simple herb setup, we’ve found 2 lights, fastened inline over the center, work perfectly.

Hydroponic Setup: Controlled Environments
For plants that need a little extra TLC—like cannabis—creating a controlled environment is key. There are plenty of grow tents on the market that let you adjust temperature and light intensity, but if you’re a hobbyist like us, you might opt to build your own custom cabinet or setup. Just remember, airflow is essential for keeping temperatures in check. We’ve also found that adjustable lights make a big difference, allowing you to raise or lower them depending on what your plants need.
Feeling techy? If you’re into IoT, you can take it up a notch by hooking up some affordable temperature sensors to an ESP32 controller or Raspberry Pi for automatic airflow and temperature control.
